Our historic and beautifully appointed Greek Revival home dates from 1848, before the Civil War. Norwich is authentically historic and retains it’s small town charm and convenience. With lovely streets lined with charming homes and parks to explore, and a classic downtown offering restaurants, coffee shops, stores and cafes, as well as banks, drugstores and supermarkets, all within easy walking distance, it’s a wonderful location to headquarter while visiting the treasures of Upstate New York!
Our beautiful historic home has a downstairs which is our main living area. However, we will open this space up to guests from time to time. There is a wholly contained upstairs apartment that might be rented out, but you’ll just need to share the driveway and front door with them.
Entering the front door there’s a private store room to your left, please don’t enter that room. The stairs is to the apartment upstairs, and the door to your right will go into your living room space.
It’s expected that you just walk straight down the hall and enter through the French doors and you’ll find yourself in the heart of your space, the dining room.
The French door on your right also goes into the living room, where there’s plenty of seating, a sofabed, electric fireplace, tv, and access to the front porch. We offer high-speed internet. (We rely on it, as we also do work from home. Anthony is a software consultant for a Silicon Valley company) The television is equipped with roku which will connect you to Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, ESPN , Amazon prime and other stations for a variety of viewing options.
From the dining room, if you go straight, you’ll be in the fully-equipped kitchen. Full sized fridge, electric stove/oven, microwave, blender, coffee maker, toaster, etc. Washer and dryer (which you will share with the apartment above). Glass topped table for a breakfast nook. And access to the backdoor which will take you to the yard. The kitchen overlook our backyard and gardens, and the antique carriage barn, and offers a wooded mountain view across the valley —better in winter and fall when the leaves have dropped. Don’t be surprised to see our resident family of deer in the backyard… this year it’s a doe with three fawns.
If you go back to the dining room and take the last door, this will take you to the bedroom. It has a queen-sized bed, and large dresser and en suite bathroom, with shower/tub. There will be space for you in the closet and in the three dresser drawers next to the vanity.
The kitchen and bathroom are fully equipped — all linens, towels, sheets etc are provided—so you just need to bring your suitcase. We have offered executive and vacation rentals in Manhattan, Miami Beach, and Rio de Janeiro , long before Airbnb existed so we are well experienced in ensuring that our guests are very comfortable and have everything they need for their stay.
You can access all of downstairs, except for the front room in the house. The garage/barn is also occupied, but you’ll be able to park in the driveway. Street parking is also available from April 1 – December 1.
We try to make your stay as comfortable as possible for you, and we like to be available by phone or text for any questions you may have. We try to greet you in person whenever possible to get you settled, but more often than not we probably won’t see too much more of you! It’s a large home, and since we don’t like to intrude on your privacy, you likely won’t see too much of us. Often we are out of town, or stay at our farmhouse on weekends. We love to give you any recommendations you may want for dining, day trips, hiking excursions, etc , but most of our guests are so busy and out and about in the area we are typically ships passing in the night!
Norwich Soundtrack
Norwich hosts the annual Chenango Blues Festival, one of the Northeast’s best summer blues gatherings. Here’s a track from our friend, singer-songwriter Karyn Oliver, whose music has been part of the local scene.
